A useful handover connects equipment status with outstanding work. The next shift starts with the same information as the previous team.

Describe the current state

Which equipment is operating, which function is restricted and what action was last taken? Record this briefly and clearly. The next shift should not have to reconstruct status from disconnected messages.

Assign outstanding work

Each issue needs a responsible contact and the next planned step. Distinguish an observed fault from a confirmed cause. Include pending tests and required approvals.

Make changes traceable

Refer to current documentation, software versions and related records. Verbal comments can help, but important information should remain accessible. For project-based shift coverage, client and team agree a handover format in advance.
