Lower total energy consumption means little if output also declined. Assess consumption together with actual production.
Define measurement boundaries
Clarify whether the measurement covers a machine, line or entire hall. Separate production, standby and downtime. Otherwise a change to auxiliary equipment may obscure the result for the machine being assessed.
Relate consumption to good output
Consider energy per good part or comparable production quantity. Product mix, scrap and ramp-up periods affect this measure. Compare similar conditions and make the underlying data clear.
Review operating states
Long standby periods may justify reviewing shutdown and restart arrangements. Process conditions and operational approvals need consideration. Measure savings before presenting them as a project outcome.
