Some setup work can be prepared in advance. Identify which tasks truly require the machine to stop.
Record the actual sequence
Observe a complete change between products. Include walking, tool searches, approval delays and trial parts. Hands-on machine changeover often accounts for only part of the full process.
Structure preparation
Check and prepare tools, documentation and material in advance where the process permits. Defined storage locations and responsibilities help. Work around operating equipment still requires the established operational rules.
Include quality after changeover
A faster changeover should not increase startup scrap. Compare the time until the first approved good part. Assessing setup together with first-part approval shows whether the improvement benefits production.
