Additional sensor values help only when their meaning is understood. Installation position, signal processing and process state belong in the assessment.

Connect measurement to the task

Clarify which decision a signal should support: position detection, temperature observation or state reporting. This determines range and timing requirements. A sensor without a specific question initially produces only more data.

Consider the environment

Installation position, contamination, vibration and access can affect measurements. Check intended conditions against manufacturer documentation and equipment design. Controller assignment and HMI display also need to be traceable.

Check readings in context

Compare the signal with observable equipment state and, where appropriate, a suitable reference measurement. Implausible jumps or unchanging values warrant investigation. Understand the measurement chain before building new analyses.
